Tej Kohli Foundation comes to the rescue
Jacinta used to constantly dream of escaping her village and the poverty all around her. She thought the only hope for a brighter future than the present she experiences with her long-suffering parents and 6 siblings was to live in a city or even in other countries. Thankfully, the Tej Kohli Foundation stepped in and helped her understand the future could be just as bright at home near her loved ones as it would be elsewhere.
That’s because the foundation selected her to be one of the numerous students it helps throughout the impoverished Guan Caste region of Costa Rica. Focusing on their educational needs, the charity has spent over $150,000 in its three years of existence to help an ever-growing number of young minds: from 12 original students to the present 72 and a projected 125 for next year.
“Now I can afford better books and other school supplies, and I don’t always have to worry about how my family will handle the expenses of going to a good school,” she says with intelligence that belies her boisterous 14-year-old personality. “Without Mr. Tej Kohli’s help, there’s no way I could have been happy staying her in Guan Caste, but now I have hope that I can make my life better for myself as well as others.”
With success stories like that, the Foundation has big plans to expand by teaming with other youth and family charities to maximize the efficiency with which it helps others, in the hopes of enabling the group’s work to spread to other nations as well. It’s a noble cause with a dynamic leader and dramatic goals, but the Tej Kohli Foundation is one charitable group that’s determined to make a difference.
